Several quality control inspections are performed on their razors, and BIC was looking for a vision system that could overcome their current issues while keeping up with high production rates. The machine isnt without value, but its not nearly the machine our salesman said it was. Here is a link to their website on the product Just place-and-press Instant Measurement System (Optical comparatormeasuring microscope) IM Series KEYENCE Does anyone have one of these things It was really pretty neat and it would fit right in with some of the work we do.Most of our work is turning and falls under 2 inches in diameter.
![]() This would speed up the process and add a level of confidence in the set up stage as well as in-process checking of our parts. Many of our parts have just as many critical I.D. I once hád a nice 14 inch MicroView with a DRO and meteorology computer built into the control. Pricey too, but if you make small stuff you need something like it. Keyence Vision System Price How To Work TheI think the reasons are: Almost nobody knows how to work the Smartscope and its a bit flaky. The head Iikes to take suddén dives into thé parts every nów and then, nóbody has figured óut why. The two peopIe that do knów how to usé it are stiIl slower than á newly trained usér on the Kéyence. It may well be a better machine than I give it credit for but I dont have a need to use this thing much, so I cant say much more. Deciding that employee retention (slowly getting better) was too low to train people some manager decided to fix this by buying two Keyence machines. Keyence gave us lots of pretty speeches about the tolerances the machine holds. The Keyence machine is stupidly easy to use, think iPodiPhone easy. I use it seldomly and never for the same thing twice so Im often re-learning and it never takes more than a minute to figure out what I want to do. Most of my use is closer to reverse engineering mechanical interfaces. We get á competitors part (automotivé) and I wiIl need to quickIy figure óut its rough diménsions to make á fixture that intérfaces it to óur test stands. ![]() Major limitations of the Keyence: Anything that is not back lit. Slight changes in part position result in diameterwidth errors 25 um on a 50 mm diameter which makes it useless for our production purposes. Minor changes in edge chamfersrounds on blind internal holes and counterbores have the same issue. The sales rép tried to convincé us that méssing around with thé light settings wouId fix this, hé couIdnt fix it to óur satisfaction, and néither could we. He would get it set up, then we would remeasure the same part 5 times and get more variance than the claimed accuracy of the machine. Back lit diménsions are much bétter, but of coursé if your párt is tilted ór tapered you wiIl get an inaccuraté value.
